The Carole King Project

Claire is an experienced and hard working musician. She received her degree in Music in 2001, and has since toured both Germany and Belgium in a variety of musical projects, from performing in rock and Jazz Swing big bands, to professional choral singing and further, as vocal and musical director of multiple productions (musical theatre, pantomime, caberate and dance productions). Claire will always say that the simplicity and freedom of performing solo is her favourite. Claire has the privilege of being taught by some amazing talented musicians. Singing and vocal instruction from Lance Ellington (BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing) to the wonderfully talented Jazz specialist Sara Coleman; Jazz Piano from the world respected Al Gurr. She has also had the honour of working with some amazing ensembles, with Jazz influences Big Band with Nigel Beer; Choral work with Douglas Coombs MBE, Soo Bishop (MMF) and Brian Wright (Goldsmiths Choral Union) with whom she has taken part in many productions at the Royal Albert Hall and Classic FM. The highlights of her career so far are quite wide, from large scale performances at the Royal Albert Hall, looking out over that huge audience is really exhilarating. Juxtaposed that with performing in a more intimate setting at a wedding. Seeing her music having an effect on the audience, watching them move, sing and smile makes her feel good. Claire’s influences are attributed to many Jazz, Rock and Contemporary musicians but if pushed she could place it to three main influences Nina Simone, Diana Krall and Carole King. The latter has spread into a borderline obsession. Which is where the Carole King Project initially started, as a ‘Lockdown Project’ to play the whole of the Tapestry Album. From there it grew to King’s back catalogue then extended to include backing tracks, currently it’s functioning with enough material for a 4 hour set!! When Claire isn’t performing she is the director of her own music school.
